Better late than never? I guess since she hasn’t really been sleeping in this room, I haven’t been eager to finish it. And still I feel like there are things to do and more shelves to be hung but for now – here’s baby girl’s room. I’ve linked the main items throughout the post, but everything is linked at the bottom.
Let me be the first to tell you – I SUCK AT DECORATING. It’s fine, I’m fine with it, but I just do not enjoy any part of it. I love to look at pretty home pictures on Pinterest, but when it comes to recreating or being inspired, I fall flat. I need a million dollars and a decorator #ballinonabudget. With that being said, I am so pleased with how her room turned out. I wanted it to be white and bright with gold accents and able to grow with her. I tried not to use too much pink but honestly, how can you not?!
The first thing we purchased for her room was her crib and once that was decided, I felt like everything else would be easy to pick out. This room is pretty small so I knew that we were going to have to be minimal with our furniture. We bought ours from Buy Buy Baby and you can use the 20% off coupon for signing up for emails. The initial banner across her crib is from the Preppie Peonie (@preppiepeonie) and we used it on her isolette in the hospital too! If you’re looking for a baby gift for someone, this is perfect! Her Etsy shop is linked here.
The next thing I purchased was the acrylic and gold lamp. I found it on a Facebook resale page but low and behold, Target sells it! Once I found that, I knew I wanted to tie in other acrylic items in the room.
We repainted the dresser that was in our bedroom to match the color of her crib. We got Sherwin Williams to match it and I love how it turned out! It was also nice that we didn’t have to buy another piece of furniture. I purchased the acrylic and gold dresser knobs from Etsy and was pleasantly surprised with the quality. They took a few weeks to arrive, but for the price and look, I can’t complain. I also bought these drawer organizers from Amazon and highly recommend them.
Mom and I went to RichTex a local fabric store to get quotes on custom curtains and a bed skirt. Holy sticker shock! Thankfully they were so helpful in the store and told us to go on their website and use a coupon to buy the curtains. I did still have the bed skirt made because I loved the fabric we found in there. I searched high a low for an affordable acrylic and gold curtain rod and finally found one at Ballard Designs. I bought the rod and the gold rings to match on sale and couldn’t be happier with the way it looks. Kudos to Chris for handing them!
Her gold light fixture came from Mathes Lighting in Daphne.
As I mentioned, I love to look at Pinterest for inspo so the round mirror and shelves above her dresser were a straight copy from a picture I had seen on there. Also, can someone please come decorate my shelves?
We didn’t think we were going to have room for a rocker in there, but Chris’s parents offered to let us use their old rocking chair from when Chris was a baby. We ordered a white cover for it from Carousel Designs so it’s a little more comfortable than just straight wood. They also gave us the wooden rocking horse from Chris’s room that my nephew has gotten lots of use out of so far 😉 Having items from his childhood in her room give it such a sweet, personal touch.
I had such issues trying to decide what to hang above her bed. I polled all of you for your suggestions and one follower told me to follow The Modern Mill (@themodernmill) because “they had the cutest name signs” she had ever seen. They reached out to me and wanted to make something for her room – SO NICE! The person I worked with was super helpful and sent me tons of mock ups for my indecisive self. After 15 emails back and forth, we finalized the design and I love how simple and unique it looks above her bed.
Lastly, I knew I wanted a rug for the room. I know, I know, a rug over carpet?! Here’s the thing: rugs make rooms look so much more complete in my non-professional opinion. Since she’s been here I spend a lot of time on my phone in the wee hours of the morning looking at anything from parenting articles, Instagram and online shopping which is when I first discovered this rug. We measured the next morning and my only regret is that we didn’t get the bigger option. It is THE softest rug my feet have ever touched! I want the flooring in my entire house to be covered in it. It comes in several different colors, but I went with the white and kind of want to buy another one for when this one inevitably gets ruined by a toddler or my husband.
I look forward to the moments where I’ll walk in and find her playing in this room that we spent months decorating, but until then I’m soaking up every snuggle and newborn moment I can. If you have questions about any items in her room, please send me an email or message me on Instagram.
